A Pig's Tale: Hog Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to begin the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
