American Military Executes Deadly Strike in Pacific, Resulting in 4 Fatalities
According to a senior defense spokesperson, the American armed forces executed a fatal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known drug smuggling route and was involved in narco-trafficking operations. A total of four male drug traffickers were killed, and no American forces were harmed.”
Background and Recent Strikes
The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund drug trafficking and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.
Just on the previous day, US defense officials stated it had carried out strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 people, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Justifies Tactics Amid Pressure
The government has encountered increasing pressure to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have declined to do so. The administration has supported its campaign as a successful operation, arguing it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the bounds of lawful warfare.
While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to confirm a broader political objective. In a recently published interview, the chief of staff remarked the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the series of strikes may be part of a strategy to remove Venezuela's current government.
