Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss
Arne Slot admitted that it was expected for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 games, marking the team's poorest run after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league champions on a tough night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I'm fine, I have got significant support from the top,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're working as a coach and not doing well then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. This isn't the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, Slot said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and we have those conversations but they don’t call me constantly each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so let’s see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over known weaknesses from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to think about it. I’m past being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with performances like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And until it is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
