Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
City officials announced they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the incident rendered him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at people of migrant background in 2020.
