England Coach Southee Uncertain on The Ashes Participation

Tim Southee's last Test for New Zealand was versus England in December 2024.

England's fast-bowling advisor Tim Southee is currently evaluating the extent of his role will be during the upcoming Ashes contest in the host nation.

The ex- Kiwi pace bowler is only likely to be present for the first Test because of his involvement in the ILT20 competition, which starts on 2 December in the UAE.

Southee, aged 36, assumed a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after taking 391 scalps in 107 Test matches for the Kiwis.

Commenting as England's squad for the opening of three Twenty20 games against New Zealand was announced, he stated of his availability: "We're still working through the situation at the present time.

"We will determine the outcome over the coming days."

English bowling legend Stuart Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in no uncertainty over what to expect during the contest, which begins on November 21.

"In my view there's ever a poor Aussie side," he said.

"Our focus is squarely on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [the English] side that's going out to Australia is excellent.

"It ought to be an thrilling encounter, the Ashes. Not only [are|do] fans from both nations eagerly anticipate it, I think the entire cricketing community is."

However, prior to the English team travel to the city of Perth for the first Ashes match, they face the Kiwis in the city of Christchurch on Saturday.
