The EU might “respond swiftly and decisively” in response to what it deems “unjustified” travel bans issued by the United States on five European individuals involved in combating online hate and misinformation, a European Commission spokesperson has said.

EU Officials Decry US Action as ‘Intimidation’

Officials from Europe including the French president accused the US administration of “bullying and threats”, following the travel bans targeted figures who have been central to efforts to introduce laws governing US-based technology firms.

“For too long, ideologues in Europe have spearheaded organised efforts to coerce American platforms to suppress American viewpoints they disagree with,” stated a senior US official in a social media post. “The current administration will no longer tolerate such actions of censorship beyond its borders.”
