Federal Officials Announce Arrests in Foiled New Year's Terror Plan Outside Southern California

Federal agents announced on Monday that they had successfully thwarted a comprehensive plan to detonate bombs at numerous sites belonging to two corporate firms on New Year's Eve in Southern California. This action resulted from the detainment of suspects associated with an radical group espousing anti-corporate and anti-authority ideologies.

Individuals Taken Into Custody During Desert Dry Run

The four suspects were arrested last Friday in the remote area located east of Los Angeles at the time they were allegedly running through their planned attack. Officials displayed aerial monitoring footage to the media, that depicted the group moving a big obscure object to a table. Authorities emphasized that the apprehensions were made before the group could construct a fully functional explosive device.

Details of the Those Charged Released

Based on the filed criminal complaint, the four individuals named are Audrey Illeene Carroll, 30; Zachary Aaron Page, 32; 24-year-old Dante Gaffield; and Tina Lai, 41. All four are understood to be from the LA vicinity.

Alleged Driving Force and Group Affiliations

Even though officials did not explicitly outline a motive, they indicated the group are adherents of a faction called the Turtle Island Liberation Front. The group allegedly advocates for "workers to rise up and fight back against the capitalist system," according to the criminal complaint.

Each suspect is charged with involve conspiracy to commit a crime and having a explosive. The government indicated that more charges are likely in the next few weeks.

Details of the Alleged "Midnight Sun Operation"

Prosecutors revealed that one of the suspects had devised a meticulous plan last month to attack multiple business locations across Southern California on New Year's Eve. The intended sites were characterized as "Amazon-type" logistical hubs.

"The plan was explicit," the attorney said. "It laid out detailed directions to construct explosive devices … and listed several objectives across Orange county and Los Angeles."

As per the probe and court documents, the plot entailed positioning rucksacks filled with sophisticated pipe bombs that were planned to be exploded at the same time at midnight on New Year's Eve at several places. New Year's Eve was identified as an opportune time as the scheme indicated "pyrotechnics will be going off at this time so blast noises will be more difficult to be heard."

An eight-page manually written document, called "OPERATION MIDNIGHT SUN," suggested that more targets could be incorporated. The facilities were described as property and buildings owned by two different companies tied to activities related to interstate and foreign commerce.

Future Schemes and Evidence Uncovered

The investigation also stated that two members in the faction had talked about future operations focusing on immigration enforcement personnel and cars with IEDs in 2026. One suspect reportedly commented that such actions "would kill some and scare the rest of them."

The plotting were allegedly talked over both at an face-to-face assembly in Los Angeles and through an secure digital platform.

Images contained in the court documents reveal a isolated site with what authorities described as bomb-making components laid out on portable tables.

The complaint notes that the group "all brought explosive materials to the location, such as different sizes of plastic pipes, believed to be an oxidizer, charcoal, charcoal powder, sulfur powder, and material to be used as detonators, along with other items."

The plan also had guidance on how to build the bombs and how to avoid leaving forensic clues that could be linked back to the individuals. The individuals had not long ago obtained precursor chemicals and other items, with acquisitions from major websites.

Operation and Aftermath

Authorities took action last week as the suspects were practicing the attack in the desert near a desert community. "They owned all the components they required to make an working bomb at that place," an official commented.

During served searches, officials reportedly found posters for the Turtle Island Liberation Front at one suspect's home that demanded "Death to America", and "Death to ICE". At another accused's home, police found a version of the detailed bomb plan.

Those arrested were taken into custody peacefully. They were scheduled to make a court appearance in Los Angeles on Monday afternoon.
