Iran Claims Strike on American Facility in Bahrain, Amid Widespread Counterattacks.
Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched missile attacks across the region in response for a large-scale and ongoing offensive against it by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the command center of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any destruction is not yet known and the US has yet to issue a statement.
Regional Interceptions
In other parts of the Middle East, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - all home to US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
IRGC Statement
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the strikes on Iran launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That US-Israeli operation - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on locations associated with the the regime, with US President Donald Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the government.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with high efficiency and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
Officials reported wreckage fell on a neighborhood in the capital, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
