The 'Breaking Bad' Creator Shares He Knows How His Sci-Fi Series Will End... For Now.

The creative mastermind never anticipated that the Apple TV+ show would turn into a breakout success. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “I did not foresee the show being as widely discussed as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the hit program wrapping up—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

It would be easy to get swayed by the constant speculation and fan theories about Pluribus. Gilligan, however, is making a conscious effort to steer clear of all that.

“It's like being force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he describes. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it through word of mouth, and that's intentional. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. Not because I don't care. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd never leave my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not changed by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Will Vince Gilligan Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

So if Gilligan and his team are not listening by fan response, does it imply they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… with some caveats.

“We have some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” Gilligan reveals. “yet we stand ready to throw out a good idea for a more brilliant plan. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We scrap ideas when we find a more perfect path and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

On the other hand, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to fall back on.

“I keep pitching that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Of course, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“I want Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan adds, smiling.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
