The Gruesome Animated Movie Ending That Lingers Fans
Among all the mature animated films I have ever watched, no other has stuck with me quite like the fear-filled conclusion of a graphically gory and highly provocative 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, the Spanish writer-director crafted a grim, somber and frequently brutal world with several minor , desolate twinges of optimism.
Although Unicorn Wars feels like it originated from an impulse to push animation further, the filmmaker explained that it was rather an effort to express a universal, multicultural message about “the common origin of each battle.”
That message is expressed via a group of colorful pastel bears , obviously inspired by a well-known line of cuddly figures.
Maturing in a community built around aggression as well as the war machine, a lot of these animals are obsessed with exterminating the mythical beasts, thanks to a sacred text that tells the bears they previously were rulers of the woods, until these creatures forced them out.
Others have not completely accepted the indoctrination, , would rather experiment with substances and fornicate outdoors.
In contrast to their gentle counterparts, these vivid animals display genitals , obvious urges.
For one notably brutal, pessimistic creature, Bluey, the battle against the unicorns becomes a path to power — and especially to dominance above his gentler, more compassionate sibling Tubby.
The character behaves aggressively , an obvious sociopath , and when horror dominates his squad and claims his comrades individually, he grabs progressively control personally, in increasingly gory, harmful methods.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are enduring their own nightmare, through a growing, destructive monster in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker commented. “Yet it turns into a more dramatic and melancholic movie. And in the finale, it becomes a scary feature.”
The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more quirky features by an iconic animator, that uncover a mischievous joy in allowing animated figures swear, engage in violence, or sex each other up.
Then it becomes closer to a darker film from that creator, featuring progressively visual gore , a noticeable link to the real tragedy of war.
By the end, it becomes a full-on theatrical horror carnage.
The horror that makes this a perfect Halloween viewing starts well before than that description suggests.
The Unicorn Wars is one for the hardcore gorehounds, for lovers of intense movies who desire to view a movie they have not watched previously, and who can handle a plot that pulls no restraint.
See it in a dark room with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow under your skin and stay with you.
