The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.
Her exit from Munich was expected since she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to United’s forward line. Schüller has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Steam at Carrington
Securing Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the winter break has brought further business:
- The acquisition of Swedish right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
On Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure commented: “Miyazawa is now a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”
Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
