Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus the Dodgers
George Springer previously helped the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays earned a spot in their maiden championship series after 1993 by defeating the Mariners in the seventh Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, the star outfielder hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three triumph in the series. They will now face the defending champions, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated World Series.
"It's incredible for this squad, our city, our country," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now hit 23 total post-season home runs, placing him third all-time trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the one club yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's painful" following his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work this season.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the wrong side of the series," he remarked.
Toronto's team claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in the early 90s, and are set to host the Los Angeles in the opener on Friday.
